Nestlé Nutrition ALFARE is specially designed for the treatment of severe and chronic diarrhea, malabsorption and severe malnutrition.

Supported by the results of clinical studies

Infants suffering from severe diarrhea have been fed exclusively over a period of 4 weeks with new Nestlé Alfaré. The new semi-elemental formula was well tolerated and resulted in normal growth (reference: EuroGrowth parameters).

In addition, some nutritional parameters tended to improve:

• The concentration of albumin increased, indicating better protein availability

• The concentration of sodium decreased, which is suitable for improvement of renal function

• The concentration of five amino acids decreased: aspartate, glutamine, glycine, serine and threonine, as a result of improved metabolic status

• The concentration of three fatty acids (C20:3n6, C20:5n3, C22:4n6) increased, a marker for better absorption of valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids

• The percentage of saturated C16:1n7c, C20:0 and C22:0 decreased, indicating an improvement of fat metabolism

OPTIMUM NUTRITION

Ingredients
Alfaré

Protein: Ultrafiltered extensively hydrolyzed whey protein, composed of about 80% small peptides and 20% free amino acids. Provides a protein source of high nutritional value, superior to casein hydrolysates.

Nucleotides: Enriched with nucleotides, which are important in the regeneration of the intestinal mucosa.

Fat: Mixture of 40% Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), 59% vegetable fats and 1% fish oil. Ensures an adequate supply of the essential fatty acids, DHA and GLA. DHA and GLA are important anti-inflammatory fatty acids. ALFARÉ fat mixture has been shown to be well absorbed in infants – even in situations of fat malabsorption.

Carbohydrates: Components are 87% maltodextrin and 13% potato starch. Maltodextrin is the main source of carbohydrate ensuring low osmolality. Potato starch improves mainly stability and palatability of the formula. Both components are more easily digested by infants with severe intestinal mucosa atrophy. No lactose added.

Electrolytes: Quantity calculated to make up for diarrhea losses. Vitamins and Minerals: Contains all vitamins and minerals known to be essential for the development of the infant.

Osmolality: 217 mosm/kg in 14.2% solution, favoring water retention.
